Looking for a unique learning experience for hands on fun with the kids? We found the perfect place for the kids to engage in hands on learning at the Da Vinci Science Center in ALLENTOWN, Pa. The Da Vinci Science Center provides the best day out for families with children ages 12 and under who value having playful, enjoyable, memorable, and enriching experiences together. The Da Vinci Science Center (DSC) is a national award-winning nonprofit organization that has brought science to life and lives to science since 1992.
The Center’s hands-on exhibits, programs, and partnership efforts present the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to kids informally, playfully, and in ways that relate to their popular interests. These active and engaging experiences awaken interest, promote fundamental skills, and inspire students to consider exciting STEM careers that meet growing industry demands. The Center also promotes creativity, artistry, and current-day applications of qualities of greatness embodied by Leonardo da Vinci and the innovators who have succeeded him.
All the exhibits are hands on and the kids had the opportunity to explore on their own terms so there is no getting bored with long mundane speeches or tours. The kids can learn as they interact with the experience from conquering their fears to testing electric currents, it’s a full day of fun. Pictured below the kids are learning about the law of gravity by testing out different products to see if they sink or float.
Based upon the concept of pixels on a television screen, the Pin Wall features thousands of injection-molded pins that allow visitors to create detailed representations of body parts, designs, and objects.
Pictured above the kids are designing an air plane to see how high it will fly up the tunnel. The High Flyers Exhibit lets the kids creative “rocket designers” cut different shapes from paper cups to see which ones fly higher or faster. An endless supply of cups lets you compare all kinds of rocket shapes.
The Hurricane Simulator
The Hurricane Simulator is a tube in which visitors stand and experience wind forces accelerating up to 78 miles per hour, the minimum speed of a Category 1 hurricane. This was one of our favorite activities and you can see in the Hurricane Simulator video that shows the winds.

Fun for Kids In New York City On The Ride
My family got a chance to experience The Ride NYC last Spring and we had no idea what to expect. From the moment you stepped on the bus, the hosts were very good and kept you entertained the whole time with their amazing energy! They asked people their names as they walked in and were really good about getting the kids involved throughout the bus ride. They kept referencing back by calling out their names while dancing on the bus, “Check out Jaxon’s moves.” Jaxon got so excited as did the other kids. The hosts also got the people on the street excited by playing music outside the bus as we all did the wave. I found myself singing and clapping along the entire ride.
The staff did an excellent job of touring the city and educating us about all the landmarks. Lucas, my oldest, was really into learning about the different buildings and there was screen inside the bus explaining more details about each landmark including Times Square, Columbus Circle, the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal and Bryant Park. You’ll explore the city in a completely new way through our floor-to-ceiling glass windows and stadium style seating!
The performers blend with the street life to become a part of THE RIDE, showing guests an experience they cannot get anywhere else! You won’t be able to tell where the New York City streets begin and the show ends!
Came out of nowhere….
Why wait until New Year’s Eve to celebrate when you can celebrate daily on The Ride. The kids were so excited to count down to new years right in front of where the ball actually drops.
The perfomers were absolute stars so talented It was entertaining as well as educational with the nararration of the differents sights. “Only in New York” performances on the street was just awesome. Interacting with pedestrians and getting their reactions or lack there of was just awesome. We got a kick out of how many people were just rude and not into even waving to us on the bus. The kids got to see the real NYC watching others rush the streets and some homeless people pick food out of the garbage. It was neat to have them see a different perspective of NYC.
While going through the financial district, thought this guy was really a UPS man and then he just started to breakdance.
Mollie was excited to see the Ballet Dancer in the park. This was a show within the bus ride.
You just never knew who was going to be part of the show. They would look like regular people and all of a sudden they started singing when we were stopped at a light.
If you are visiting New York City, you want to buy tickets to experience The Ride. It was a great day to relax and have some laughs while seeing NYC the way that you have never seen it before.
Disclosure: I was given complimentary tickets to review The Ride. All opinions are 100% my own.
One thing that I won’t miss this summer is running out the door to get to school. Our kids are big on breakfast and they will not settle for just cereal, but I recently started having them help with the morning breakfast routine. My kids eat eggs and turkey bacon every day, and I always felt that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. That’s why I don’t really mind taking the extra time to make healthy meals in the morning. We try to eat healthy as much as possible, so I was excited to try Nellie’s Free Range Eggs.
Nellie’s is committed to providing better lives for hens, which means better eggs for you and your family! Coming from the first Certified Humane® farm in the country, Nellie’s girls (aka hens) are never caged and have as much, or as little, access to outside as they want. I know it can be confusing when it comes to selecting eggs. Free Range eggs title means that most times of the day and year, the hens are free to roam outside as they please. This is very different from Cage Free, which sounds good, and is better than being in a tiny cage, but still basically means that you are in a massive warehouse of a barn with hundreds of thousands of other hens, in floor to ceiling caged enclosures, with no access to the outdoors. So not exactly idyllic.
Easy to prepare, inexpensive and nutrient dense, eggs are one of the most versatile and nutritious meal or snack options around. Plus, they’re a great first food to get kids into the kitchen and interested in cooking at an early age. In the summer, we tend to take a lot of day trips and the kids don’t want to get up early. So, I try to have the sandwiches ready to go, so it’s a quick but healthy meal before setting out for our adventure! Nellie’s offers some great promotions and coupons on their website, be sure to check them out.

Sesame Place isn’t just for small kids, there are so many attractions for the entire family. Now that my kids are older and don’t really watch Sesame Street, I was afraid that they wouldn’t want to visit Sesame Place but I was wrong. It’s is one of Pennsylvania’s most popular amusement parks and here is why you should take the kids to Sesame Place Langhorne, PA.
Sesame Place is conveniently located off of I-95 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and is accessible from most major cities in the Mid-Atlantic, including Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey beaches, Baltimore and Washington DC. It’s the perfect time, and they’re the perfect age, for Sesame Place®, the nation’s only theme park based entirely on Sesame Street®. So before little kids become big kids, bring the entire family to whirl on rides, splash down slides and hug everyone’s favorite furry friends. Don’t miss Cookie’s Monster Land, our furriest land ever, or the special opportunity to meet, greet and eat with Elmo & Friends! Get ready to sing, dance and clap along at our daily character shows and our spectacular Neighborhood Street Party Parade. So go before they grow® to the nation’s only theme park based entirely on Sesame Street.
Take the Kids to Sesame Place
If your kids are afraid of characters, this is the perfect place to break them in and make them feel comfortable. I have told this to many of my friends that are on the fence about heading to Disney, but their kids are afraid of the characters. Trying the kids out a local amusement park like Sesame Place is a good start. There are special events throughout the day that the characters will be at and at different parts of the park. This way, you can plan the day accordingly if your child is still afraid. Jaxon, my youngest, was always afraid of the characters, but we finally made him feel comfortable at Sesame Place.
The great thing about Sesame Place is that there are different themes throughout the year. Since we are only under 2 hours away from Sesame Place, I know that many people buy a season pass which is 6 easy payments$18.83 per person. But if you do want to spend the night, I would recommend the Courtyard Philadelphia Langhorne. All packages include breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children, 2 Elmo 2 day passes, a rubber ducky per child and complimentary shuttle service to and from the park.
Summertime at Sesame Place June 19 through September 2
It’s crazy, but my kids still get excited to see characters around theme parks. It will be a very sad day when they stop, but even if they aren’t interested in seeing the characters Sesame Place has rides and slides for kids of all ages. The summertime is one of our favorite times to visit because of the water activities for kids of all ages. We went with my cousin who has a two year old daughter and my oldest is ten years old. There was something for everyone, including mom. Here is a tip- have kids wear their swimsuits, but try to get there when park opens and hit all the rides before lunch and the water rides after lunch. There are changing rooms and lockers to rent.

Mermaid Tails are the biggest hit for the summer and if you are raising a girl between the ages of 4-12, chances are they are probably asking for a one. When my daughter, Mollie, first asked for a Mermaid Tail I totally dismissed the request and told her that she was crazy. But she was obsessed! After watching a ton of Mermaid youtube videos, my 7 year old was not giving up! I told her she had two options to either save her own money and purchase that herself or to ask for it as a gift.
Well, she went right to her grandparents and that was her Kindergarten graduation gift. She can’t wait to get back into the Mermaid tail this summer!
Say Yes to the Mermaid Tail.. and get one for yourself!
It was an exciting day when the Fin Fun Mermaid Tail arrived and of course, she had to try it on! She wore the tail around the house and was anxiously awaiting the moment she could jump in the pool and become a mermaid. I am excited to take some pictures this year with my new underwater camera, but we did get some nice pictures above water.
Rules when wearing Mermaid Tail!
- The Fin Fun Mermaid Tail can only be worn with an adult present. This is so important since it can be difficult at first to swim.
- Put a time limit on the Fin Fun Mermaid Tail. Swimming as a mermaid takes a lot of energy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great exercise for kids, but they can get very tired from using the fin. I actually get a little claustrophobic thinking about it, but Mollie has no problem with it and would probably swim all day with it on. I just feel like she needs to break.
- The last rule was that she had to take care of the Mermaid Tail after getting out of the pool. That means not leaving it around the side of the pool and taking out the fin to wash.
The mermaid tail is so cool, I totally would have loved this as a kid. Jaxon even liked trying on the Mermaid Tail. Did you know they sell adult mermaid tails! They even have adult mermaid workout classes, which are probably an awesome workout!
Details about Fin Fun Mermaid Tail
There are lot of discounted mermaid tails, but the reviews are not very good. Although there is some sticker shock, the Fin Fun Mermaid Tail has the best reviews. The mermaid tail comes in a variety of colors and sizes ranging from toddler to adult. Keep in mind that that you will also need the Fin Fun Mermaid Monofin or you can’t really swim like a mermaid. The price is $79.95 -$114.95 for both and I know it sounds crazy, but it’s totally worth the price. Be careful that it does not run on the bottom of the pool because the fabric is bathing suit material and can rip easily. My daughter is 7 and wears a size 10.

As moms, we are always looking money saving tips – seriously, I tend to ease drop when I hear others talking about a deal. One of the biggest struggles that I am finding is having that extra cash for stuff like summer camps, day trips, sports signups, band or dance lessons. Here are 5 Money Saving Tips and have some extra cash to have some fun with the family.
- Set a goal what you are saving for (for example, is this for Christmas or maybe a special vacation). This is a great money saving tip to have a goal in mind.
- Try not to borrow from the funds (unless there is an emergency)
- Don’t keep the cash in your house – You will be more likely to dip into it
- If you need to skip a week or add less, that’s ok. The goal is to save in the end, not go into debt from saving.
5 Money Saving Tips
1. Personal/Family Budget like Business– You may think that I am crazy by saying this, but I never thought of my household as a business until I became a stay at home mom. When making the jump from two paychecks to one paycheck, you have to look at where every penny is going. Creating a budget, similar to a business plan, will help guide you through the entire year without getting into debt.
2. Know your Monthly expenses– Take out a piece of paper and list every monthly expense that you have. This may require some time and you may have to go back a few months of looking at bills.
▪ Eating Out
▪ Doctor Visits
3. Create a Spending Budget- Plan each month what you are going to spend, save and splurge!
▪ Groceries and Eating Out
▪ Misc Expenses (like haircuts, celebrations oil changes, clothing, entertainment, after school sports, home repairs, etc)- One of the tips that I love to share is how I stockpile on gifts for the entire year. You can view the ValPak Video on Creating a Gift Closet.
4. Use a calendar and make sure that it’s in a room that everyone walks through. Not only does a calendar help get you more organized for scheduling but it’s great for a monthly budget. By planning for pizza night or special nights out with the kids, the entire family will we aware of when those dates are coming and it avoids the popular question- Can we just eat out?
- Meal Planning- I just started really getting into meal planning and try for just the dinners each week. Note that I try to schedule a night to eat at my moms or mother in laws as well. NEPA Mom has a great meal planning template that will help get you started.
- Shopping Trips- Plan all shopping trips ahed of time and try to buy clothing online (even for stores that offer free in store pickup). By shopping online it prevents those impulse buys and you can also check your shopping cart and easily click the delete button.
Celebrations- Planning ahead rather than buying last minute can save you hundreds of dollars a year.
5. Emergency Money/Flex Money
It’s so important to have an emergency fund and also flex money to have some fun with the family. If you are a couponer or find yourself saving money with some of these tips, then save that extra money in a flex fund. You should always being saving in an emergency fund.

If you are heading on vacation with the kids either cruise or a resort, you might be searching for reviews on the best kids snorkeling gear for vacation. Most resorts rent scuba or snorkeling gear or sell it in the gift shop, but that can get expensive. The kids will love having their own snorkeling gear and it can be used throughout the whole trip.
When were planning our recent trip to Jamaica, the one tip that I read from traveling moms was to pack our own snorkeling gear for the kids to explore the ocean without having to go on an actual snorkeling trip. I was able to find the best kids snorkeling gear for vacation on Amazon. Remember that my kids are ages 10, 7, 5 and I found the perfect fit for each one. I really recommend purchasing kids snorkeling gear if you are traveling to tropical waters.
One of my biggest concerns was the goggles fogging up or having leaks, but that wasn’t the case. The kids were able to swim in the shallow waters and explore. The nice thing about the packages below is that they can be worn throughout the whole trip. The kids loved playing games in the pool with the googles and didn’t have any problems.

Looking for the Best Camera to Take Underwater Pictures? The Olympus – TG-4 16.0-Megapixel Waterproof Digital Camera is a must have for vacations. When we started planning our trip to Jamaica one thing that I knew we had to purchase was a good underwater/water proof camera. The last thing we wanted to do was have to worry about using our phones to take pictures and dropping them in the water. Plus, we wanted something that the kids would be able to use on the trip that would also take good pictures. Of course, I went right to facebook for advice from friends to to ask what is the best camera to take underwater pictures and many mentioned the Olympus TG-4 Waterproof Digital Camera. I was a little turned away by the price of the camera Olympus – TG-4 16.0-Megapixel Waterproof Digital Camera, which is $379.99 and totally worth the investment.
Best Camera to Take Underwater Pictures
The quality of pictures was amazing from the underwater details to the out pictures taken on land. We were able to bring the Olympus – TG-4 with us on the water sports rides, snorkeling, dolphin swim and just into the ocean with no worries. The kids loved the fact that we can capture the memory underwater and with no worries. I was so worried about how the quality of the pictures would be with the underwater camera, but the pictures were great. It was great not having to worry about bringing our phones to take pictures because the camera took awesome pictures and videos both underwater and above water.
The Olympus TG-4 16 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Red) The best accessory we purchased for the camera was the Polaroid Floating Wrist Strap. My biggest fear was dropping the camera in the water, so this is where the floating wrist strap came in handy.
About the Camera
The kids were also able to use the camera with ease and we didn’t have to worry about it breaking. Tough TG-4 takes all you can dish out and keeps shooting! Waterproof to depths of 50ft/15m, it’s perfect for snorkeling or battling the waves. TG-4’s robust construction is crushproof to 220lbf/100kgf, shockproof to 7ft/2.1m, and dustproof. And because TG-4 is freezeproof to 14°F/-10°C, even frigid conditions don’t faze it. From snowy slopes to coral reefs, this is the camera you can always keep with you.
Built-in WiFi for Olympus – TG-4
There are times that I would rather take pictures on my phone because they are easier to store and share, but the Olympus – TG-4 has a really neat feature with built-in WiFi. The app is free to download and takes minutes to upload pictures, videos take a little longer. We use this camera for most of our pictures now.
This is one of my favorite features of the Olympus – TG-4 that you can sharing and upload your outdoor adventures quick and easy with TG-4’s built-in WiFi and the free OI.Share app. Sync smart devices with a QR code to wirelessly share photos and videos with a press of a button. Plus, compose your image, control camera settings, and shoot remotely all from your smart device. Just download the app and scan the QR code on camera. My husband would upload the images right from the beach. The videos take a little longer to upload, but it’s nice that you don’t have to transfer the images via USB or storage card.
We ended up buying the Olympus TG-4 Waterproof Digital Camera Accessory Bundle, but found that we didn’t use all the items in the bundle. I think that the camera and floating wrist strap are just fine purchased together. It was nice having the extra battery and we ended up saving all the photos to the SD card and placing in safe at home as a hard backup of photos, but I don’t think it’s something that you need to have.
