(Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Review by Jenna)
Last week we posted information about the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Mohegan Sun arena this weekend.
I now know why they call it the Greatest Show on Earth! Last night my family headed down to the Mohegan Sun Arena to view the opening night of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents BARNUM BASH. Personally, I had no idea what to expect being that it was my first trip to the circus (not sure if I went as a kid). My kids and I were so excited to experience this show together as a family.
I expected to walk into a smelly arena filled with obnoxious clowns, but I was wrong. The stage was set and as the lights came on the excitement filled the air. The colorfully dressed characters entered the arena signing and dancing and animals all around them. The opening act of dancing camels, horses and ponies captivated the crowd. The kids couldn’t stop laughing as the ponies danced through the legs of the horses. I was amazed at the training it must involve to get those animals to dance.
Lucas tells us his favorite part of the show-
The rest of the show was filled with the strongest man on earth bending, lifting and event laying on broken class as the cast walked across his body on a large piece of wood. There was also a storyline of a corky boy who wanted to join the circus and between each act he would come out and entertain the crowd with tricks in hopes of being asked to be part of the circus act.
The strength of the gymnastics acts were amazing. The way that some of these people can bend their bodies totally amazed me. (Since I am such a reality show junkie, if they were selling a behind the scenes look at the circus staff, I totally would have bought it.)
Each act got more amazing with motorcycles driving in circles around each other in a huge ball set in arena and then of course, the act that my children were most excited to see, the dancing elephants. My stomach was filled with butterflies as if I were a kid at the circus but at 32, I was still so excited to see this family show. I would recommend going to see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents BARNUM BASH for a family night out.
On a side note, I was surprised that the toys were actually reasonable. Gramma gave the kids some money and Mollie bought a cute Barbie for $10.00 and Lucas bought a cannon for $12.00. The stuffed animals were a little overpriced at $15.00, but we have enough stuffed animals in our house to be considered a jungle.
The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be a Mohegan Sun Arena from November 1 -4, 2012.
